The two special solar panels in this kit each consist of three solar cells. When linked together in series, they generate up to 3.0 volts of electricity in bright sunlight, like two AA batteries. Two unique cradles hold either the solar panels or batteries, allowing you to switch out the solar panels for two AA batteries (not included), depending on the strength of sunlight. You can even use the solar panel to charge up your own rechargeable AA batteries. The solar panels are positionable, so you can maximize their exposure to the sun to generate the most power.

Power the models you build with the solar panels outside on sunny days or indoors under a high-wattage incandescent light bulb. Power your models anytime with AA batteries or even a combination of AA battery and solar panel.

The 48-page color instruction book included in this kit gives step-by-step instructions for assembling the 22 models. This kit teaches basic concepts in solar energy, photovoltaics, and circuits, as well as problem solving skills and creative thinking.

The 265 building pieces included in this set are compatible with those in all Thames & Kosmos Construction Series kits, Physics Series kits, Wind Power, and Hydropower kits.
